We are beyond thrilled to be nominated for the best concept category in this year's Small Business BC Award

The Best Concept Award is open to all new exciting, creative and innovative businesses (and business ideas) in BC. This is the only award for which entrepreneurs don’t need to be in business yet; they just need to prove that they have a phenomenal and viable idea that’s going to make an impact.

  • Viable, Creative Concept: A viable business concept that describes the business, its product, the market it serves and the business’ competitive advantage.
  • Strategy for Growth: A plan to take the business beyond concept or start-up to the next level with a strong implementation/growth strategy.

We are an enterprising new business on a mission to change construction industry waste disposal practices by reducing, and where possible, eliminating construction waste from entering the landfill through affordable and environmentally conscious waste services.

Sea to Sky Removal is the first hauling company in Canada to implement innovative recycling stations on site to make recyclable sorting easier, thereby maximizing what can be recycled. Crews hand-sort loads to ensure the max amount of recyclables and reusables are kept out of the landfill. We donate reusable items to non-profits, keeping them from being discarded and generating revenue for charitable organizations. Plus we also provide waste audit reports and photo documentation so clients can see the impact of their efforts.

Our business operates in a large ($6BN), fragmented market, ready for disruption. The timing couldn’t be better with increased regulation requiring waste separation.

We have until November 30th to get as many votes as possible. The Top 10 businesses with the most votes in each award category will move on to the next stage of the contest. Vote for us today by clicking here. Wish us luck!

Sea to Sky Removal Becomes Built Green Canada Supporting Member

IMG_4830.JPG

We recently have become a proud supporting member of Built Green Canada and looking forward to sharing our knowledge on sustainable waste management practices on your builds when it comes to waste removal.

Built Green Canada is an industry-driven, voluntary program that promotes “green” building practices to reduce the impact building has on the environment. Their programs benefit the homebuyer, the homebuilder, the community, and the environment, and offer everyone an opportunity to choose a “green” future.

The program concentrates on seven areas: energy efficiency; materials and methods; indoor air quality; ventilation; waste management; water management; and business practices.

In regards to the waste management component of your build, our knowledge and experience will ensure that you are able to collect the much-needed points as well as a piece of mind knowing that the materials were disposed of in their proper way.

Our team hand separates all recyclables as well as any reusable items from actual garbage. We also live load our trucks so we can efficiently dispose materials to the correct locations such as the landfill, recycling centers, as well as any suitable local non-profit organizations.

Did you know that you will receive 2 points just for having our on-site recycling stations on your site? The 3 box bags we provide you with are for metal, cardboard, and plastic (ideal for foams, hard packaging from tools, or finishing items).

Not only will the recycling station help streamline the sorting of your construction waste, it will also keep as much as possible out of our local landfills. The stations will also track waste being diverted with a Waste Diversion Report, which analyzes the breakdown of each truckload and measures the amount of material that has been diverted from the landfill.

We are always ready with the education and tools to make recycling and greening your site easy, even second nature. Our team will happily consult you on efficient construction waste management practice to help keep your site clean and green.

We are also members of Recycling Council of BC, which means you will automatically amass 3 points on your Built Green builds when you work with us for your waste category. It’s a win-win!

Sea to Sky Removal Celebrates Waste Reduction Week in Canada

Circular economy graphic.png

This week we celebrate Waste Reduction Week in Canada, which is a national environmental campaign that builds awareness around issues of sustainable and responsible consumption, encourages choice for more environmentally responsible products / services, and promotes actions that divert more waste from disposal and conserve natural resources.

As a waste removal company servicing the construction industry, we value efficient and sustainable waste management practices and love to educate our clients about proper ways to dispose of their construction waste. We try our very best to divert as much as we can from the landfill when we pick up loads from construction sites throughout the Lower Mainland and the Sea to Sky Corridor by donating, recycling and reusing. We do dispose actual garbage too but our whole MO is to be environmentally conscious when it comes to hauling away construction waste. Speaking of, have you read our environmental policy yet?

Waste Reduction Week in Canada is a unique program, focused solely on the principles of circular economy, resource efficiency, and waste reduction. The program’s primary purpose is to celebrate environmental efforts and achievements while encouraging new innovative ideas and solutions. The celebratory nature of the campaign is how it motivates learning and behavior change.

The program’s educational resources and “take action” messaging empower all Canadians to adopt more environmentally conscious choices. Waste Reduction Week in Canada further provides information and ideas to reduce waste in all facets of daily living, creating the solutions to the many environmental challenges we face including climate change, water pollution and preservation of natural resources.

Each day of Waste Reduction Week and its associated theme will be presented through the lens of its contribution to advancing a Circular Economy. As a relatively new concept in Canada, the theme days will provide an opportunity to educate what is meant by the Circular Economy as each theme has its own story to tell. In selecting the themes for WRW 2017 the topics that were relevant and top of mind for the public and engaged stakeholders.

Monday’s programming will showcase new and innovative circular economy which ties into our two informational blog post in regards to landfill diversion. We focus on places to donate construction waste in Part 1 and then in Part 2 we focuse on places you as well as us recycle construction waste. Lastly, have you read our post about the recycling stations we have implemented on construction sites? Let us know what you think and if we need to add anything else to the posts.
